In conclusion...

OK Go - Here It Goes Again

I really enjoyed the Learning 2.0 activities. Even though I was already familiar with many of the tools, I appreciated the opportunity to take some time and really PLAY with the different applications. I'll continue to use many of them and I look forward to discovering a few new ones, too! I guess my biggest challenge is to avoid falling under the spell of new technology. I need to make sure that I keep my users in mind and really investigate a new 2.0 tool before I rush into things.

Thing 23: Podcasts

I like the idea of podcasts, but I don't actually listen to them very often. I receive podcasts from Genetic Alliance. Genetic Alliance is one of my favorite online resources because it has such a great way of bridging information from the researcher to the clinician to the consumer. Genetic Alliance has a series of teleconference webinars which present information on topics such as organizational development, public policy, communications and fundraising.

Genetic Alliance Webinars - information and materials for upcoming sessions.

Genetic Alliance Webinars archive - recordings of previous sessions and materials for download.

YouTube

For this 22nd Thing, I thought I would simply include one of my favorite movies on YouTube: Protein synthesis: an epic on the cellular level.

Directed in 1971 by Robert Alan Weiss for the Department of Chemistry of Stanford University and imprinted with the "free love" aura of the period, this short film continues to be shown in biology class today. It has since spawn a series of similar funny attempts at vulgarizing protein synthesis. Narrated by Paul Berg, 1980 Nobel prize for Chemistry.

Google offers users a plethora of different applications to streamline productivity and information flow. Google Labs is the incubator for these wonderful applications.

There's Google Maps (see a street-level view of Tower Grove Park):

Thing 20: How to make a Monkey La La

What a great list!

Some of my faves are here:

One that I haven't tried is Cocktail Builder. I really like the idea that I can keep track of what's in the cabinet and use the site for suggestions. For instance, I could make a Monkey La La RIGHT NOW, if I wanted to...
1 oz of vodka
1 oz of kahlua coffee liqueur
1/2 oz of coconut cream
milk
ice
fill blender with ice. add vodka, kahlua and coconut cream. fill with milk. blend and serve.
